I cannot and will not referee disputed transactions, and do not want this list used to dispute sales/trades. You're on your own; protect yourself as you would when buying anything from any stranger on the internet. It's rare for people to get cheated here, but it has sometimes happened. Please take any disputes to private mail or to newsgroup rec.music.artists.springsteen. If this list starts getting abused with "bad trader alerts" and the like, I will shut it down. Copyright infringement occurs when you reproduce or distribute someone else's copyrighted material (unless certain exceptions apply, like fair use). It doesn't matter whether you are selling it or making a profit. The very act of making the copy is the infringement. Now, maybe it's true that Bruce or others have less of a concern if it's not being sold, but that would be their attitude, not the law. However, they also make quite nice blank discs and cassette tape. Are these intended to be used as something other than material to duplicate music? I don't hear them complaining about the sales of those items. I don't think they are planning to stop production either. Talk about your mixed message! Tom T. I am not sure of all the details, but if you pre-purchase the live cd's through their web site (like those available on the last tour), you receive a password which entitles you to download the concert within 24-48 hours in it's uneditied state. When the cd of that concert is ready, you will receive that in the mail. This is the sort of innovative thinking that will generate interest in cd sales. I can only imaginge the frenzy if Bruce and band did this! If the record companies are serious about stopping bootlegging, they ought to follow Pearl Jams lead. Tom T.
