I cannot and will not referee disputed transactions, and do not want this list used to dispute sales/trades. You're on your own; protect yourself as you would when buying anything from any stranger on the internet. It's rare for people to get cheated here, but it has sometimes happened. Please take any disputes to private mail or to newsgroup rec.music.artists.springsteen. If this list starts getting abused with "bad trader alerts" and the like, I will shut it down. Note 2: NO TICKET SCALPING! If selling tix, state the price. Thanks. -- Kevin Kinder (owner-luckytown@luckytown.org) Contents: Farewell for now ["Kevin Kinder" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 19 Feb 2003 21:13:54 -0600 From: "Kevin Kinder" Subject: Farewell for now Dear luckytown and luckytown-ads subscribers, This is a mail I've struggled with starting to write for quite a while. As you know, there hasn't been a luckytown-digest so far this year. It's a matter of priorities. Right now I'm a new employee at a startup company, trying to get my career back on track after a lengthy stretch of unemployment and still maintain a good family-work balance. I just have zero time for the luckytown lists. Looking back at the longer term, I think it's also pretty obvious that for the past few years I haven't been keeping up with the luckytown lists the way that they need to be tended, and I think the quality of discussion has been suffering in part because of the unpredictable lags. If I step back objectively, I think that after 12 years my own zealotry for the lists has waned, in part because I've been ground down over time, in part because I'm tired of fighting the virus-of-the-week, and in part because the online Springsteen fan community has diversified and evolved over the decade such that the base of potential contributors is much more fragmented than it ever has been. I feel that luckytown just ain't what it was, I don't like treading water, and I lack the desire and the time to try to improve it. I've decided that rather than continue to let things spiral, I'm going to shut down the luckytown mailing lists for the foreseeable future. If there is a volunteer who would seriously like to take over hosting and running the lists, I'll certainly consider it, but I'm not in a position right now of being able to offer much help to anyone getting started up. This isn't the way I envisioned ending the lists; I always thought I'd go out with a really good rant :-). But I have too many good memories of great people that I've met through this list who have extended me too many kindnesses over the years. I'm tempted to go into a long list of thank-you's, but I'd be afraid of missing someone important, and this letter would get put off yet another month. Let me just say thanks to all of you, and I wish you the best. I apologize to the subscribers who are disappointed, but I feel this is the right thing to do at this point. Consider this a "farewell for now" rather than goodbye, and maybe I'll meet you further on up the road.
