This would go against what we've read in all the interviews that The Rising songs were written shortly before or after September 11. It's easy to accept how Waitin On A Sunny Day may have been around for a few years, but Nothing Man's lyrics would seem to suggest that it could have only been written recently. Can anyone confirm either of these things? Espeasially one who is listening to Korn and the Chilli Peppers who Iv'e been seeing the later live for over 12 years. As someone who found Bruce in 84' as a highschool jr. at the Alpine Valley show I was instantly hooked. My friend talked me into blowing off Aerosmith that night and going to Bruce instead. Thank god for him. It didnt stop me from still seeing metal shows and then some of the best Alternative shows in the early 90's (the Chilli Peppers at a Ballroom w/ some opening band called Pearl Jam? opening and the 2nd band, a local one, called The Smashing Pumpkins). I've seen Bruce now probably 40 something times and at 34 dont see my self slowing down much. Now married w/ a 2 yr old I will "only" be seeing 5 shows this fall. Though that in part is due to this terrible 1 show per city thing. St. Louis was great, not as great maybe as other tours, but still great. I was disapointed to see the crowd not into it as much as other cities and all the empty seats in the 3rd balcony and none sold behide the stage was sad. But now I have digressed. My point is, how refreshing it is to see Bruce still conecting w/ new and younger listeners no matter how few they may be. Craig Volpe P.S. Anyone who has the chance to see the Flatlanders SHOULD not miss this show. Obviously Bruce is a huge Joe Ely fan and so am I. Just wanted to share an experience........ Sunday night before September 11, 2002 I went to mass at the university chapel here at Fordham University in Bronx, NYC. Although I am not an avid church-goer I made the effort to go into mass that night expecting to feel less anxious about the coming anniversary. After going through the ritualistic beginnings of the ceremony the priest approached the microphone to begin his sermon. This is the beginning of my religious bruce experience. The first words out of the father's mouth where "I have a confession....I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan." It was at this point where i looked at the people around me and wondered where the hell I was. Being in a Jesuit school based around a conservative idealogy, hearing a priest speak of bruce, made coming to church that night as enjoyable as if they were serving beer. His sermon was based entirely on the importance of The Rising and how it has been the number one thing in his life that helped him get through the last year. Do i think he is putting this above prayer? I do not know but what I do know is as the father pointed out, this album became a vehicle for emotion, a vehicle for prayer, and a voice for feelings that none of us could put into words. As the sermon went on and I became more and more in a state of peace, the next event lead me to write this article. In my catholic church, Into The Fire was being played. Being played loud. As we all sat in amazement........the song went on. After we all listened for what seemed to be hours. The priest came and took the mike "To be able to speak after hearing those words would be utter blasphemy" I am going to leave it at that. Why don't you go out and see the cover bar band down the street who can do the same songs you always want to hear, Bruce will, and should, do whatever he wants. And so sad that you don't want to see more than one concert. That really should be enough, share the wealth (in more ways than one.) I for one am glad to hear that this tour isn't just a nostalgia trip though I am also glad that I'll get to hear Thunder Road and a few choice classics again. I know that the show will be great, that the band will play hard and strong and that the man will be true to himself and his audience. Because that's the deal with this band, always has been, and can't imagine it being any other way, ever. Bruce Springsteen is almost 53, not 30 or 25 or 20. He now writes from the perspective of a 53 year old father and husband and rock star(albeit a wealthy and most successful one.) He has always been an eloquent and romantic poet of his environment, both of the wild and the innocent and the downtrodden struggling for hope in their own hardscrabble lives. His very own environment, his neighbourhood, his "backyard" if you will, has drastically changed in the past year and naturally he has been affected by it and thankfully for me he has chosen to address it both through his work and his actions(he has long been politiccally active as well.) These are dark days, not to be taken lightly. I'm surprised that the days in this past year haven't been darker for some. In America (and elsewhere)disgusting sums of money still get wasted while people suffer hellish lives, silly movies still flush more millions getting made, entertainers and sports heroes are still grossly overpaid and allowed (and indeed encouraged) to indulge and people still feel the need to drive big, shiny "off-road" plluting vehicles on urban streets. Those New York lives(and others) and the issues that are a most definate part of a much bigger picture deserve to be treated with great pause and thought and empathy. Bruce Sprinsgteen knows that and is doing his part. MOC is a nonprofit organization that brings live musical performances to the bedsides of hospital patients. In order for us to continue to provide these programs we are organizing a fundraising event, which will take place annually in New York City. The focus of this event is the display and auction of signed celebrity guitars. These guitars will be presented and auctioned as signed works of art at a one night only gala opening in SoHo. Shore Fire Media is providing publicity for this event and The Skylight Ballroom at The Puck Building is being donated to serve as our gallery. Paul Simon and Bon Jovi have already donated signed guitars for this event. To make this event a success we are looking for signed guitars from well-known artists as well as companies to sponsor the event. We are also interested in companies that can donate printing, refreshments and other items (e.g., memorabilia) to be auctioned off at a silent auction. To be sure everything humanly possible is done to save the Palace, Save Tillie, the Palace preservation campaign, is holding its third online auction, this time with more than 70 rock 'n' roll items we think are fun, valuable, and interesting. The auction starts at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 22 and runs through 11:59 p.m. Oct. 12. You can access it through Backstreets.com, savetillie.com, or at the Bruce Springsteen Ticket Exchange at www.flyingcow.com/cgi-bin/auction.pl. We hope you find something you'll love to own. One hundred percent of each winning bid goes directly toward Palace preservation campaign activities in the absolutely crucial final weeks. Also a reminder: if you can, take two minutes and drop New Jersey Governor McGreevey an email in favor of preserving Asbury Park's music landmarks. Just go to: http://www.magicbus.com/savetillie/tillie_form.html Enter your message, click and send, and you've done a huge favor for everyone who is fighting on behalf of the Palace, the Casino, the Stone Pony and other waterfront sites. I have been wondering for some time what (if any) work there's being done from the official Springsteen management (Landau etc.) to minimize the obvious ticket scalping on the internet? Does it not matter to Bruce and the band that they don't play to a full arena (as it has happened on the US leg) even though the show has been sold out for ages, or don't they carry about if any people attend the shows, just the money keeps coming in from ticket sales? I don't believe the latter! Obviously there must be a reason to why the seats are left empty - my guess is that it's ticket scalpers who get stuck with a lot of tickets because of their extremely unfair prices. I have have been so fortunate to get tickets to both Paris and Berlin, so my complaint is more for the many fans who haven't got hold of any tickets at all. For Paris the tix were at least on sale for 4 days, so it was pretty easy to get them through the official outlets at officially listed prices, but all other shows in Europe sold out extremly quickly. For example the show in London sold out in 45 mins. During the 45 mins it was impossible to get through via Ticketmaster (online or by phone) or other of the online ticket outlets - fair enough if the tickets go to the real fans, but obviuosly they don't, that's just the way things are and you have to accept that there's not tickets for every fan. The tix went on sale at 09.00 and at 10.00 I made a simple search at www.google.com for "springsteen + tickets". I think I got around 100+ hits, and many of them sites dedicated only to selling Bruce tickets (for example: http://www.bruce-springsteen-tickets.net). Mostly for US shows, with prices starting at approx. $170 up to $700+ - theese sites have tickets for practically every show on the US leg. Tickets for the London show were at that time (at 10.00 - only an hour after they went on sale) between #300 and #400. You can allways hope for theese ticket scalping sites to get stuck with the tickets and hope that they lose some money, but compared to the fact that it's just peanuts they lose and the fact that many fans around US and Europe are left behind with no ticket... It just doesn't feel right to me. I no you can't get complety rid of the ticket scalpers, but I cannot understand why sites like the above mentioned with the pretty officially sounding name selling Bruce tickets in large amounts exists? Wouldn't it be easy for the Springsteen management to close theese sites? - if I can find so many illegal ticket-selling sites in only a few seconds, it's certainly not a question of them not knowing that theese sites exists, but why do they let them continue selling tix at all? ...and of course they are aware who's paying the price at last: The Fans who either don't get tix or have to pay crazy amounts for them. Does it really have to work this way?
