Most of us are also members of Lucky Town, but we started E Street Canada a few years ago to track info for Canadian shows. This year, as a way of honoring Bruce and saying thank you for the gift of music he has given us over the years, we initiated a few fundraisers for the Daily Bread Food Bank. We had a T-shirt sale last month that raised almost $500 for the Food Bank, and this month, in anticipation of the band's show at the Air Canada Centre on December 5th, we have organized our first-ever auction. Please feel free to check it out at: www.thefirsttoymakertotheking.com/cgi-bin/auctionEstreetCanada.pl And if you're planning to make the trip to Toronto of December 5th, make sure you join us after the show at the Esplanade Bier Market. Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan will be providing post-show entertainment and we'll be accepting food and cash donations for the Daily Bread Food Bank. (Oh, if you need hotel accommodations while you're in Toronto, be sure to check out the auction. The Fairmont Royal York Hotel has donated one night's stay. The Royal York is a grand old hotel in Toronto, and also happens to be the closest hotel to the Air Canada Centre.) Cindy Galbraith ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2002 21:52:33 EST From: HurHugo@aol.com Subject: Bruce wore my hat in Houston! Here's the story of how Bruce wore my cowboy hat in Houston, and why I would be so grateful if anyone has any photos or videos they'd be willing to share: Bruce saw Cindy's white cowboy hat in Dallas, and wore it during Working On The Highway. I hadn't worn mine, since I thought it might block people's view in the pit. But it was raining all day in Houston, so decided to wear it to help stay dry, and maybe if I got close enough at the show, and they played WOTH again...well, it was worth a try. As #84 in the GA pit line I got really close to the stage and sure enough they went for WOTH again. So I threw the hat on stage (only a few feet), and it landed in front of and slightly to the left of Bruce. He was already strumming the intro. He saw it and said, "Oh, we got a BLACK hat tonight." And didn't put it on. At first I thought he didn't want to wear it. He sang one verse, then stepped over, picked up my hat and put it on! It has a stampede strap (leather tie string that prevents it from falling off when my horse Cochise runs), so he had to adjust it. Of course I was over the moon, trying to remember the moment but also desperately trying to find someone with a camera. For the last verse he pulled the hat over his eyes, as he did in Dallas. At the end of the song, he stepped to the lip of the stage and gently put the hat down, where it was passed back to me. Bruce and the band were taking their final bows as I madly waved the hat in the air. As his last gesture before leaving the stage, he spotted the hat, pointed to me, waved and said thanks. What a night, what a show, what a great artist who connects with all his fans, and yet another incredible, lifetime-memorable connection with this particular fan. As Gennel said in her post on LTD today, it's a real working hat, the one I wear every day at my summer job at Fantasy Ranch in Crested Butte, Colorado, so the fact that Bruce wore it means even more. I am so lucky. With all best wishes for a speedy recovery to our friend Clarence.
