This year I received 239 responses (up from 136 in 1995 and 61 in 1994). Individual poll responses ranged from as few as 1 CD "Bruceleg" to several responses with over 250! The average poll response size contained 46 CD "Brucelegs" (up from 29 in 1995 and 22 in 1994). I can't thank enough all those who took the time to go over the very large poll list and submit their entries. Every single entry, no matter how large or small, was appreciated. The original poll list had 516 CD "Bruceleg" titles listed. By the end of the poll an additional 9 had been added to bring the number to 525. Out of this 525, 504 titles were accounted for in the responses to the "Brucelegs" poll. Now for the details on how I calculated the rankings. For an individual CD "Bruceleg" to qualify it had to be included in at least 5% of the poll responses. This means that since there were over 239 responses, a CD "Bruceleg" title had to have been included in at least 12 (rounded up from 11.95) of those responses (up from 7 to qualify in 1995 and 6 to qualify in 1994). Approximately 54% of the 525 CD "Brucelegs" were able to qualify (in comparison, 54% of the 325 CD "Brucelegs" titles qualified in 1995 and 36% of the 210 CD "Brucelegs" titles qualified in 1994). The ratings for OVERALL, PERFORMANCE, and SOUND were accumulated and averaged separately to two (2) decimal positions (0.00). Since the PERFORMANCE and SOUND ratings were optional, several folks did not include one or both of them in their poll responses. The ratings for SOUND, PERFORMANCE, and OVERALL are shown in the following format: 9.99/## - where "9.99" is the rating and the "##" is the number of poll responses that included this title. The average of the OVERALL ratings for each CD "Bruceleg" was used to determine the rankings. Any numerical ties based on the OVERALL ratings average occupy the same position rather than take up more than one. In addition, if two (2) or more CD "Brucelegs" of the same material were ranked consecutively, then a "virtual" tie was declared even if the OVERALL ratings average was slightly different. You'll see why I used "virtual" ties when you read the results. If you have a favorite CD "Bruceleg" that didn't make the list, there's 3 possible reasons: (1) not enough people have it and included that title in their poll responses, (2) other folks who did include it did not think as highly of it as you did, or (3) you didn't send me a poll response with your ratings. The definitive versions of these listings and more will eventually find their way onto the Brucelegs Version 4.0 website when it's done.
